A classically trained pianist, Chris King is an in-demand pianist, keyboardist, accompanist, arranger and musical director based in Sydney, Australia. He has worked in musical theatre, cabaret, tertiary institutions, vocal and instrumental exam accompaniment, piano bars, tribute shows, pop/rock bands and film/television.
Chris is currently working as Musical Director on the 2017/2018 South Korean tour of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical Cats.
Most recently Chris was the Associate Musical Director on the 2015-2016 Australian tour of Cats and before that the Associate Musical Director on the 2014-2015 Australian tour of the musical Wicked.
As a pianist/keyboardist he has worked on several major Australian musicals, including Hairspray, An Officer and a Gentleman, Legally Blonde, The Addams Family, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Grease, The Lion King, Strictly Ballroom, Wicked and Cats.
For Darlinghurst Theatre Company he has worked on the musicals Kiss of the Spiderwoman, No Way to Treat a Lady and Falsettos. Work for NIDA student productions includes Sunday in The Park With George (including keyboard programming), and Woyzeck. Chris has also been Musical Director on productions of Reefer Madness (Squabbalogic), Elegies for Angels, Punks and Raging Queens (Paul Holmes Productions), and The Great American Trailer Park Musical (New Theatre).
Cabaret work includes The Kermond 3-Gen Show (Wayne Scott Kermond & family), The Tap Pack, Der Gelbe Stern (Alexis Fishman), Songs From Below 54th Street (Alexis Fishman), Hardly Zen (Elena Gabrielle) and He Said She Said (Holly Summers-Clarke & Julian Kuo).
Charity work includes Musical Director on Hats Off (Oz Showbiz Cares/Equity Fights AIDS), and Twisted Broadway (Oz Showbiz Cares/Equity Fights AIDS). Chris also has a continued association with the Rob Guest Endowment, having worked as audition/rehearsal/orchestral pianist for a number of years.
He has also worked as an accompanist and/or vocal coach for the Talent Development Project, the Schools Spectacular, NIDA, the Australian Institute of Music, and ED5 International.
